Mr. Fred Zeidman, chairman October
28, 2005
US Holocaust Memorial Museum
100 Raoul Wallenberg Place

Dear Mr.Zeidman,
The US Holocaust Memorial Museum’s
mandate is to inform the American people about potential genocides. The Iranian
President, Mahmoud Ahmandinejad, on
October 26, 2005 called for the state of Israel to be “wiped off the map.” This
is a genocidal threat to the Jewish people. As Prime Minister Sharon said “Iran
wants to destroy the Jewish people”.
In support of
the Iranian president’s statement, at least 200,000 Iranians marched in Tehran
on Friday chanting, “Israel is approaching its death”, according to an
Associated Press report. Tens of thousands of Lebanese joined in demonstrations
in southern Beirut and 30,000 were reported by the AP to have marched in
Bahrain.
We implore the Museum to finally break its
silence about the role of the Arabs both in the Holocaust and their
current campaign using Holocaust era stereotypes to vilify the Jews. Arab anti-Semitism aspires to be a
genocidal threat to the Jewish people, as the Iranian threat and the supporting
demonstrations show. But
the Museum’s website which tracks current
anti-Semitic statements and actions did not even report this Iranian threat.
We implore the Holocaust Museum to cover this latest
chapter in the campaign to destroy the Jewish people. The lesson of history
which the Museum records is that one cannot ignore the rhetoric of
anti-Semites.
Sincerely,
Carol
